Gosh, it's only been four years....

Yes, I started this blog about four years ago. Would like to get it going again. A year or two ago I purchased one the the original GRs from a camera company in England. Yep, England. They seem to be hard to find in good condition. When they first came out many reviews panned them. In fact, I waited for the GRII. Of course after the fact I should have looked at the photos and not paid attention to the reviews. Anyway, I set the camera to 3.5 (I think) and 400 B&W. Yep, went next door and snapped a few of my neighbors. A delightful day to be out and the temperature was about 70 or so... So here they are. FWIW, if anything, I sat on the stoop and didn't use the viewfinder.... Jackie, thanks for being a good sport.

So, what's this all about??????

Well, a friend told me that I needed to take a break from...well, I guess my obsessions...with...hmmm....the content of some of my other web sites. Yes, and actually she was right. For the past couple of years I have basically neglected everything, so to speak....and have pursued...well, maybe another time.Anyway, I've always enjoyed photography, though it has always been somewhat frustrating. Yep, you want to get decent shots but are always not getting what you want.Several years ago, I tried a photo a week. One of the Leica groups started it. I did....well, sort of OK. But, failed to actually get a photo a week.Then a year or so ago, I suggested to my buddy Eddie that we try again. Hmmm. And, that went all to hell.Soooooooooooo, this year I'm going to try once more. I just ordered a Ricoh GR II. This is the digital version of what started as a film version many years ago. Eddie and I bought one when they first became available and it is truly one of the greatest cameras ever made. It was the don't-leave-home-without it camera. Just a basic P&S; however, it was the first that was aperture preferred. (You set the aperture and the camera sets the speed.) This was a break through at the time. Also, it was small. And, it had a fixed 28 mm lens that rivaled the best available. For those of you who don't know, that's a pretty decent-sized wide-angle lens. Maybe more on that later.Anyway, a couple of years ago, Ricoh introduced the digital version. Same basic camera except more manual controls and digital. Some reviews frankly weren't that great...and hey, it was a pretty pricey camera.Recently, they came out with an improved version, the GRII. Soooooooooo, I ordered one today along with three, four GB SD cards. We shall see what happens.The camera and SD cards should be here NLT Friday (today is Monday). Though I have far more cameras than many camera shops...this project is to use just the Ricoh 28MM. Nothing else. More on this later........
